Richard Schmidt is a key software architect with the Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Services (IS&GS) - Civil group. The IS&GS - Civil group supports government projects including human space flight programs for NASA, biometric identification for the FBI, solutions to Transportation Security Administration and avionics/IT systems to the Department of Transportation. Lockheed Martin develops reliable, safety critical systems such as air traffic control systems that handle almost sixty percent of the world’s air traffic. A Computer Science graduate from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), Richard leads a group responsible for developing infrastructure and middleware solutions for the highly available, reliable, safety-critical ATC systems. In addition, Richard has a deep interest in reliable communications, full life-cycle problem determination, software fault-tolerance, automated testing, software reuse through proper abstraction and cross language applications.
