(Refreshments and Social at 7:00 P.M.) at the Lockheed Martin Corporation in Rockville, Maryland

Snacks and soft drinks will be served at 7:00 PM, the general meeting will start at 7:30 PM, followed by the program.

Abstract: Introduction to Web Technologies for Effective Dissemination of Information - Part III

This presentation is based on the tutorial given at SIGAda'98 and SIGAda'99 by Currie Colket, Brad Balfour, Clyde Roby, and John McCormick and augmented by David Wheeler on the Ada95 binding to the CGI.

Introduction to Web Technologies for Effective Dissemination of Information is broken down into 3 parts:

Part I: Introduction to HTML and XML
Part II: Ada Binding to the Common Gateway Interface (CGI) to Process HTML Forms
Part III: Effective Design Strategies Appropriate to Disseminating Information and Tools to Manage Development of Web Pages

Part I was presented on 9 December 1999; Part II was presented on Thursday 10 February. Part III will be presented on Thursday, 12 October. Part III is consists of:

  1. Effective Design Strategies Appropriate to Disseminating Information with the main goal to help understand the many ways that the WWW can be used to communicate information. It has a secondary goal to help new designers effectively choose appropriate techniques from among the many that the web provides. Effective ways to organize various types of information are included. This section provides things to think about in designing a web site based on almost a decade of experience on managing web sites.

  2. Tools to Manage Development of Web Pages addresses tools that are effective in developing, organizing, and updating the Web Site. It also includes tools useful for analyzing the correctness of the web site and fixing problem areas. Basically this section covers tools to do the Job.

Each Part is independent, i.e., Part III will be valuable to a listener even without having attended Parts I and II.

Presenter: Clyde Roby

Clyde Roby received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from West Virginia University in 1972. He received his Master of Science degree in Information and Computer Science from Georgia Tech in 1979. He is currently a Research Staff Member with the Institute for Defense Analyses with interests in computer and network security, electronic commerce, and web technologies as well as software engineering. He has been involved with Ada for over two decades and with various working groups of SIGAda, including the Ada Bindings Working Group (ABWG) and the ASIS Working Group (ASISWG). He has been using World Wide Web technologies since the early 1990s to communicate effectively for international standardization efforts. His email address is roby@ida.org.
